How Passport Scanners are scanning the Passports
Usually, passport scanners read the MRZ(Machine Readable Zone), two lines at the bottom of the identity page of the passport, and pass it to the PC. The software running on the PC will process that. The passport scanners can also use OCR(Optical Character Reading) technology to extract details like name, passport number, nationality, and expiration date from the image of the document.
Modern passports store biometric information also with RFID chips inside the passport. The scanners with RFID readers can quickly verify this information.
